Eagles stop Jets for first victory
• PHILADELPHIA 24, N.Y. JETS 17: Darren Sproles returned a punt 89 yards for a score and added a 1-yard touchdown run in East Rutherford, N.J., as the Eagles (1-2) improved to 10-0 all-time against the Jets (2-1).
"I thought it was gritty," Eagles coach Chip Kelly said. "We knew going in this was going to be one of those kinds of games. To use a boxing analogy, two guys were going to stand in the middle of the ring and start throwing at each other."
Sam Bradford threw a TD pass to Ryan Mathews, who also rushed for 108 yards while starting in place of injured DeMarco Murray for Philadelphia.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall and Jeremy Kerley, but he also was was intercepted three times.
• HOUSTON 19, TAMPA BAY 9: Ryan Mallett threw for 228 yards and a touchdown and Alfred Blue had 139 yards rushing as the Texans (1-2) won for the first time this season. Kyle Brindza, who made a 58-yard field goal in the second quarter, missed an extra point and three field goals in the second half for the Buccaneers (1-2).
