Jarvis Landry will take a hit in the wallet for his block that injured Bills safety Aaron Williams.

The Dolphins receiver was fined $24,309 for an illegal crackback block, two people familiar with the situation said Thursday. The people confirmed the fine to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the NFL had not yet announced the fine.

Landry was penalized for unnecessary roughness after he launched himself and caught Williams in the head while blocking on a running play Sunday. Williams was taken to a hospital for evaluation of a head and neck injury before traveling home with the Bills.

Buffalo coach Rex Ryan said Williams is out indefinitely and called Landry's hit dirty and deliberate. Following Sunday's game, Landry apologized for the block, said he wished he could take it back and offered little defense when asked if the hit was dirty.

"Call it what you want," Landry said. "It's football."

Williams' father, Anthony Williams, said his son intends to wait until the offseason to determine whether to continue playing. Anthony Williams said doctors ruled out a concussion.

Last year, Aaron Williams hurt his neck diving headfirst in an attempt to tackle Patriots receiver Julian Edelman. Williams missed the final 11 games and required neck surgery.

Etc.

• Broncos running back C.J. Anderson was bracing for a prolonged recovery as he prepared to undergo surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his right knee. Anderson is the Broncos' leading rusher with 437 yards and four touchdowns.

• Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson expects to play Sunday against the Saints despite a pectoral injury suffered Monday night in a tie with the Cardinals.

• Browns coach Hue Jackson said he expects quarterback Josh McCown to return to the starting lineup at home Sunday against the Jets. McCown missed five games because of a fractured left collarbone suffered Sept. 18 in a 25-20 loss to the Ravens.

• The NFL investigation into alleged domestic violence allegations against Cowboys running Ezekiel Elliott remains an open case, per league spokesman Brian McCarthy. The Columbus (Ohio) City attorney's office declined to pursue charges against Elliott last month because of conflicting and inconsistent information, stemming from accusations from a former girlfriend.

• Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith has applied to the NFL to be reinstated from his one-year suspension. A person with knowledge of the application told the Associated Press that Smith has asked Commissioner Roger Goodell to be allowed back on the field once his ban for violating the league's substance abuse policy ends Nov. 17.
