Sonny Gray's unsuccessful stretch with the Yankees ended when New York traded the pitcher to Cincinnati after the 29-year-old righthander agreed to a contract with the Reds that added $30.5 million from 2020-22.

New York received infield prospect Shed Long and a high pick in this year's amateur draft, then flipped Long to Seattle for 21-year-old outfielder Josh Stowers. The Yankees sent the Reds lefthander Reiver Sanmartin in the moves Monday.

Soccer: Cristiano Ronaldo will make an unwanted trip back to Madrid on Tuesday and is expected to plead guilty to tax fraud. The Juventus forward is expected to appear before a judge and receive a suspended two-year sentence as part of a deal struck with Spain's state prosecutor and tax authorities last year. The agreement will cost him nearly $21.6 million in fines.

College football: The Hoosiers hired longtime play-caller Kalen DeBoer as their associate head coach and offensive coordinator. DeBoer spent the past two seasons as Fresno State's offensive coordinator after serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Eastern Michigan from 2014-2016.

Gophers hire cornerbacks coach

The Gophers hired Rod Chance, a defensive analyst for Oregon, as their cornerbacks coach, coach P.J. Fleck announced.

Chance spent the 2018 season with the Ducks after spending the previous two seasons as defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at FCS-level Southern Utah.

Chance's defense intercepted 15 passes, forced eight fumbles and had 21 sacks and 77 tackles for loss in 2017.

Chance fills an opening created last week when defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae left to become a defensive assistant coach at West Virginia, his alma mater.

The Gophers also said that former Maine head coach Joe Harasymiak, who was hired by the Gophers in December as a defensive assistant, will coach Minnesota's safeties.
