'NEW LANDSCAPES'

Closing soon: Behind its modest title, this show delivers more than just some fresh paintings by Robert Dorlac, Gregory Euclide and Andrew Wykes. Beautifully installed in Groveland's sunny galleries, the show features some genuinely new formats within an extremely traditional genre. Euclide tears and crumples portions of his finely detailed ink drawings of rocky North Shore cliffs, then adds natural bits including moss, bark and ribbons of wasp-nest "paper." Encased in Lucite boxes, his drawings have an intriguing sculptural presence without seeming gimmicky. His titles are even more baroque than his cleverly sculpted landscapes, including "The Oranger Side of Oyster Cluster's Tiny Pockets," seen here. Wykes turns out lively images of tranquil scenes by applying Cubistic fractures to Minnesota's rolling hills and lush fields of corn and soybeans. And in a series of elegant monoprints, Dorlac moves in for close-up attention to tree trunks clustered in twilight groves, autumnal sunsets, summery glades. Besides being freshly observed and skillfully executed, these handsome paintings embody the seasonal change everyone longs for this time of year. (Ends Feb. 28, free.
