New Jersey guard signs with Gophers men's basketball team

The Gophers men's basketball team officially added their first member of the 2016 recruiting class Wednesday with Patrick School (N.J.) senior guard Jamir Harris signing.

The 6-2 Harris is a consensus three-star prospect who also received scholarship offers Stanford, Creighton and Alabama.

St. Raymond's (N.Y.) four-star point guard Isaiah Washington will sign with the Gophers on Thursday at his high school, he tweeted Wednesday. Washington initially was planning to wait until next week.

U volleyball signs six

• The No. 2 Gophers volleyball team signed six players, from four states and New Zealand. The list: Jasmyn Martin, Brooklyn Park who plays for Hopkins High School; Lauren Barnes, Naperville, Ill.; Sara Nielsen, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; Stephanie Samedy, Claremont, Fla.; Sydney Kleinman, Frisco, Texas, and Alice Zeimann, Christchurch, New Zealand.

"It's a class with a vast amount of depth, talent and character," Gophers coach Hugh McCutcheon said.

Martin is a 6-3 outside hitter who averaged six kills per set and hit .416 this season.

U men's golf adds three

Golfers Ben Frazzini of Wayzata, Reece Sanders of Blake and Evan Long of New Castle, Pa., signed national letters of intent to play for the Gophers. Frazzini helped the Trojans win the Class 3A state title last spring, tying for 10th. Sanders won the Class 2A state title.
