NCAA DIVISION III QUARTERFINALS
BETHEL AT CENTRAL COLLEGE
When: Noon today
Where: Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella, Iowa
Records: Bethel 11-1, Central 12-0
Last week: Bethel set a school record for victories with a 21-12 victory against UW-Eau Claire. Bethel rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns as a team, and the defense held Eau Claire to 37 passing yards.
Central had little trouble with St. John's in a 37-7 victory. Central quarterback Tim Connell completed 19 of 33 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns.
Preview: Central is 4-0 lifetime against Bethel, winning 29-21 in their most recent meeting in 2005. Bethel likes to run the ball while Central's Connell is capable of shredding defenses with his passing. Connell has completed 39 of 69 passes for 675 yards and eight touchdowns with only one interception in two playoff games.
Key players: The game features two terrific quarterbacks in Connell and Bethel's Ben Wetzell. Both quarterbacks were selected MVPs of their respective conferences, and each needs to have a big game for his team to advance to the semifinals.
Numbers: Central's defense has allowed 281.6 yards per game the past three games after giving up an average of 386.7 yards in the first nine. Bethel ranks 25th nationally in Division III in rushing at 233.4 yards per game. Central has collected 23 interceptions and 38 takeaways.
