The NBA's free-agent moratorium ends at 11 a.m. Central time Thursday. That means the Wolves can sign point guard Jeff Teague, power forward Taj Gibson and any other free agent with whom they might reach agreement by then.
They have 10 players signed to guaranteed contracts, which leave five spots still open for the big-league roster.
The Wolves' roster is lopsided with big men and short on wings/perimeter players as well as three-point shooting. Among the players they have pursued to fill those needs are Indiana's C.J. Miles and the L.A. Lakers' Nick Young. They also likely will sign a veteran point guard alongside Teague and third-year pro Tyus Jones.
Young reached agreement Wednesday with mighty Golden State on a one-year, $5.2 million contract.
Unless the Wolves clear additional salary-cap space, they are believed to only have a $4.3 million "room" exception and league minimum contracts to fill those five remaining roster spots. There still are many free agents remaining on the market who could address their needs. Among them: Miles, Boston's Gerald Green, Brooklyn's Randy Foye, Atlanta's Mike Dunleavy or Thabo Sefolosha and European shooter Matt Janning, a Watertown, Minn., native.
