A national survey of diners' tipping habits have crowned Philadelphians the most generous, while Minneapolis-St. Paul came in just a shiny coin or two above the national average.

The list of 30 geographic areas was compiled by the 29-year-old Zagat Survey, which bills itself as "the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based information on where to eat, drink, stay and play worldwide."

According to Zagat:

Philadelphia diners leave an average tip of 19.6 percent. The national average is 19 percent. The Twin Cities tied for 12th at 19.1 percent.

At the bottom of the list: Honolulu at 18.0 percent, with three West Coast cities (Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco) tying for 27th at 18.4 percent.
