Heisman Trophy watch

The front-runner

Braxton Miller, Ohio State: Your head likely still is spinning from Miller's spin move on Monday night at Virginia Tech. He added to that with 57 rushing yards and a pair of catches against Hawaii.

Keep an eye on

Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia: Boosted his cause by rushing 19 times for 189 yards at Vanderbilt.

Trevone Boykin, TCU: Passed for 285 yards and four TDs vs. Stephen F. Austin.

Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State: Helped his cause by rushing 27 times for 101 yards and three TDs.

Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State: A 12-for-18, 111-yard day vs. Hawaii isn't gonna get it done.

Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA: Played later Saturday. True freshman opened season by passing for 351 yards and three TDs vs. Virginia.

Seth Russell, QB, Baylor: Played later Saturday. Passed for 376 yards and five TDs in opener.

This week's best bets

No. 17 Ole Miss at No. 2 Alabama: In one of the season's most stirring games last year, the Rebels stunned the Tide 23-17. Don't expect that 'Bama defense to let that happen this year.

No. 6 Auburn at No. 14 LSU: If LSU wants to return to the SEC's elite — the Bayou Bengals were 8-5 last year — they have to win this type of game at home. A heavy dose of Leonard Fournette would help keep Auburn offense on the sideline.

No. 9 Notre Dame at No. 15 Georgia Tech: The Fighting Irish needed some magic to escape Virginia, but now they have to face a Tech team that won the Orange Bowl and has scored 134 points in two games.

Brigham Young at No. 13 UCLA: Life as an independent nowadays means you have to play Nebraska, Boise State and UCLA in order. And just to add to it all, BYU gets Michigan the following week.
