Trump airs grievances with late Rep. Lewis
President Donald Trump played down the accomplishments of Rep. John Lewis, the recently deceased civil rights icon, and criticized him for not attending the Trump inauguration in an interview conducted while Lewis was lying in state at the Capitol. The comments from Trump, which aired on "Axios on HBO" on Monday night, were unsurprising, given his penchant for grievance. But they were nonetheless stunning for the degree to which Trump refused to view Lewis' life and legacy in terms beyond how it related to Trump himself. "I never met John Lewis, actually," Trump said. "He didn't come to my inauguration. He didn't come to my State of the Union speeches, and that's OK. That's his right." When asked to reflect on Lewis' contributions to the civil rights movement, Trump instead talked up his own record. "Again, nobody has done more for Black Americans than I have," he said. "He should have come. I think he made a big mistake."

Seven Marines and one sailor remained missing after a two-day search.
Four black bears hit by cars in past 3 weeks
Four black bears have been hit by cars in Yosemite National Park over the last three weeks, leading rangers to urge motorists visiting the famed Sierra Nevada destination to slow down in a summer in which the human traffic has been cut in half because of the coronavirus. Two of the bears died. The other two were injured and it is unclear whether they survived.

3 hot-air balloons crash near Jackson Hole
Three sightseeing balloons crashed Monday in a popular Wyoming tourist destination, injuring as many as 20 people in what one passenger called a terrifying few minutes. The balloons, owned by the same tour operator, went down separately near Jackson Hole and did not crash into each other, Teton County Sheriff Matt Carr said. The cause was under investigation, but the weather was apparently a factor, he said.
Venezuela
U.S. still recognizes Guaido as president
The State Department's top official on Venezuela said Tuesday that the Trump administration will continue recognizing lawmaker Juan Guaido as the nation's interim president even if President Nicolas Maduro's government ousts the opposition from control of congress — its last major stronghold. "He will not change the legal status for many countries around the world — and especially for us," Trump's special representative to Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, told the U.S. Senate's Committee on Foreign Relations in a hearing on Venezuela.
