7 shot, 3 killed after basketball game

Three people were shot and killed after a basketball game at a Boys and Girls Club in Rochester, N.Y., late Wednesday, police said. Multiple shots were fired from a car passing by the club where a total of seven people were shot, police and news reports said.

Prison escapee is arraigned

A convicted killer serving life behind bars when he staged a daring escape from a maximum-security prison was arraigned on new criminal charges in his first court appearance since his capture after more than three weeks on the run. A judge entered not-guilty pleas for David Sweat, whose right arm was in a sling, on two felony counts of first-degree escape and a felony count of promoting prison contraband for possessing hacksaw blades. Fellow inmate Richard Matt, also a convicted killer, was shot dead June 26.


British Embassy to reopen in Tehran

In an indication of warming Western relations with Iran, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond will reopen Britain's embassy in Tehran, probably Sunday, British officials said. In November 2011, the ambassador's residence there was ransacked and the British flag burned by protesters.


ISIL affiliate claims credit in blast
