Kerry arrives to prepare for Obama's visit

Secretary of State John Kerry met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday to promote economic ties and set the stage for President Obama's visit Jan. 26 for India's Republic Day celebrations. It is the first time that a U.S. president has been invited to the event as the nation's chief guest.


Morsi adviser is released

Egyptian authorities released one of the advisers to ousted President Mohammed Morsi who were detained with him during the military takeover on July 3, 2013. The reasons for the release were not immediately clear; there is little sign of any easing in the broader crackdown on Morsi's supporters.


Police: 5 guns found in shooting suspect's car

Investigators found five guns and a laptop computer in the vehicle of a man suspected of killing three people in a shooting spree, police said, but they hadn't yet uncovered any motive. John Lee, 29, was arrested following a high-speed chase in nearby Washington state after the shootings Saturday. Police believe he opened fire at three locations in the Idaho city of Moscow.
