Photos show El Faro in final resting place

Federal investigators are considering starting another search of the wreckage of a freighter that sank in October in an attempt to locate the ship's "black box." The lead investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board says that a weekslong search found one of the El Faro's missing decks, but not the mast where the ship's voyage data recorder was attached. The agency on Sunday released the first images of the ship in its final resting place. No human remains were found.


Mayor shot hours into term; 3 detained

Three people, including a minor, were being held in the slaying of a newly inaugurated mayor just hours into her term in a gang-troubled central Mexican city. Morelos Gov. Graco Ramirez blamed organized crime for killing the 33-year-old Gisela Mota, a former federal congresswoman who had been sworn in as mayor of Temixco the day before she was gunned down in her home Saturday morning.

Israel indicted two Jewish extremists suspected in a July arson attack on a Palestinian home that killed a toddler and his parents — a case that has been unsolved for months and helped fuel the current wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence.


6.7 earthquake leaves at least 4 dead

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit India's remote northeast region before dawn Monday, killing at least four people, injuring 100 others and causing damage to several buildings. The death and injuries were caused by falling debris in and around Imphal, the capital of Manipur state, police said. The epicenter of the earthquake was 20 miles northwest of Imphal. The area is remote, and information about conditions outside of major cities may take time to emerge.
