ST. PAUL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Friday and next Sunday: These SPCO concerts are made of two exquisite pairings. The first is of two French masterpieces, by Arthur Honegger and Camille Saint-Saëns. Honegger's "Summer Pastoral" is an early work, inspired by a 1920 vacation in the Swiss Alps. Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 2 is full of intricate counterpoint, coming from his admiration of Bach. The second pairing is of works to be performed by artistic partner Thomas Zehetmair, violin, and his wife, Ruth Killius, viola. "Three Sketches for Violin and Viola" by Swiss oboist and composer Heinz Holliger is followed by the first gem of Mozart's maturity, the Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.
