BOOKER T & THE MGS WITH EDDIE FLOYD

Tuesday-Wednesday: The musical chefs at the Dakota know how to spice up an already winning recipe. Still-exciting Rock Hall of Famers the MGs were rock's biggest instrumental group in the 1960s and also an essential studio band, backing the likes of Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and Wilson Pickett. The new ingredient this time is Eddie Floyd, the powerhouse voice behind the '60s soul classics "Knock on Wood" and "I've Never Found a Girl (To Love Me Like You Do)" who sounded in good form on 2008's "Eddie Loves You So." The MGs will serve "Green Onions," "Time Is Tight" and some of the most expressive Southern guitar licks you've ever heard, courtesy of Steve Cropper (right), who co-wrote some Stax hits with Floyd. (7 & 9:30 p.m. Tue.-Wed. $27-$55. Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Mall, Mpls. 612-332-1010 or DakotaCooks.com.)
