Baltimore police say they plan to charge former Gophers men's basketball guard Daquein McNeil with murder for causing a fatal house fire last month. Police believe McNeil set the June 4 fire amid a drug dispute with an unidentified person who was staying inside the vacant dwelling. The man who died was not the intended target. McNeil is already behind bars on arson charges in connection with the fire.

Smith wins women's State Am
Kate Smith of Detroit Country Club shot a 4-over-par 75, just enough to finish 5 over for the tournament and win the Minnesota Golf Association Women's Amateur by one over Taylor Ledwein of New Prague Golf Club and Sarah Burnham of Rush Creek.
Smith was three shots up at the turn but carded four bogeys on the back nine to make things interesting. After Burnham bogeyed No. 17, Smith's par on the final hole sealed the victory.
Ledwein, meanwhile, carded three birdies on the back nine to complete a 2-under 69, matching Smith's Round 2 mark for best score of the 54-hole event.
Burnham, the defending champion, finished her roller-coaster final round with five birdies and six bogeys.
She said after the round she plans to turn pro next year.
