MSU Moorhead reaches men's NCAA Division II Elite Eight

Jordan Riewer scored 13 points, sinking five of six free throws in the final 40 seconds, as Minnesota State Moorhead defeated Northwest Missouri State 47-42 in the NCAA Division II men's basketball Central Regional on Tuesday night in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The victory moves the Dragons (35-3) into the Elite Eight. They will play Bellarmine of Louisville, Ky., on Wednesday, March 25 in Evansville, Ind.

"It's hard to put into words," Riewer said. "It's an unbelievable team win. It's the best team win we've had all year."

Isaac Sevlie added 11 points and Aaron Lien scored nine for MSU Moorhead, which led 20-18 at halftime. The Dragons held Northwest Missouri (25-7) to 15-for-52 field-goal shooting (28.8 percent)].

• A trio of Gophers swept the Big Ten Three Stars of the Week honors after leading the program to back-to-back regular-season championships with a pair of victories over Penn State. Forwards Hudson Fasching and Kyle Rau were first and second stars, respectively, while goalie Adam Wilcox was third star.

Matt Fielder and Tony Skjefte homered and drove in four runs each as the Gophers baseball team beat host Richmond 13-12 in the opener of a two-game series.
