Minnesota State Mankato men's hockey coach Troy Jutting was reassigned to "administrative responsibilities" effective immediately, the school announced Sunday.
Jutting coached the Mavericks for 12 years, going 184-224-55 (.467) with one NCAA tournament appearance (2003). He was WCHA Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2008. He also spent 10 years as an assistant and four as a player.
School President Richard Davenport said he will work with athletic director Kevin Buisman in a national search for a new coach.
"This is the right time to make a change, and we're committed to taking our men's hockey program to new heights," Davenport said.
Davenport said the search will begin immediately.
"I leave this position with a lot of great memories and am extremely proud of the work we've done in ensuring that our student-athletes have earned degrees, have become successful professionally and are serving as community leaders," Jutting said. "We've accomplished a lot in the last 12 years with the game of hockey."
Jutting's new duties will be effective through the remainder of his contract, which expires in June 2013.
