My late mom was a disciplinarian, but kind — slow to anger. She pushed me (cello lessons, sports, Boy Scouts) and I quickly discovered what I was good at, what I loved. She never gave me a guilt trip for not setting out on a different path (doctor/lawyer/engineer). She loved me for what I was, warts and all. In this life that's all one can hope for.
