CINCINNATI — A mother goose apparently knew exactly who to turn to when one of its goslings became tangled in string.

Cincinnati Police Sergeant James Givens tells WKRC-TV he thought a goose tapping at the door of his cruiser on Monday was simply hungry. But after the goose walked away and looked back toward the cruiser, Givens says he followed it to discover a baby bird tangled in the string of a balloon.

When no humane society officers were available to come to the rescue, Givens says fellow officer Cecilia Charron was able to untangle the bird and return it to its mother.

Givens shot video of the encounter on his cellphone. It had been viewed more than 600,000 times after being posted to YouTube .
