'MOONLIGHT' SHINES

When the writers' strike hit Hollywood in 2007, it sucked the life out of "Moonlight," a TV series about a private investigator (Alex O'Loughlin) who moonlights as a vampire. The show won a People's Choice Award for favorite new TV drama, but CBS execs nevertheless drove a stake through its heart, canceling the series after 16 strike-interrupted episodes.

But now fans of the beloved show, which has an average Amazon.com rating of five out of five stars among 206 reviews, can relive its many moody moments on DVD. The full run of the series arrives Tuesday in a four-disc set (Warner, $40).

It's one of several TV shows coming Tuesday on DVD.

The clever animated series "The Powerpuff Girls" arrives in a nicely priced complete-series set on six discs (Warner, $60). The others include Season Five of the 1970s drama "Emergency!" (Universal, $40), a sixth volume of the British thriller "MI-5" (BBC, $80) and Season Six of the 1970s James Garner series "The Rockford Files" (Universal, $40). The 1960s sitcom "My Three Sons" returns with the second volume of its first season (CBS, $40), but with the same music changes that marred its first outing.
