MONday's top performers

Monica Engelman, Kansas: Scored a career-high 27 points to help the Jayahwks become only the second No. 12 seed to advance to the Sweet 16 by beating fourth-seeded South Carolina 75-69. San Francisco in 1996 was the only other 12th-seeded team to win two games in the women's tourney.

Aaryn Ellenberg, Oklahoma: The 5-7 sharpshooting guard

scored 27 points to lead the sixth-seeded Sooners (24-10) past third-seeded UCLA 85-72 in Columbus, Ohio.

Shacobia Barbee, Georgia: Scored 20 points, including a key three-pointer with 2:03 left, to help her team hold off Iowa State's furious second-half rally for a 65-60 victory in Spokane, Wash.

Layshia Clarendon, Cal: Her 27 points helped the Golden Bears survive South Florida 82-78 in overtime for their first 30-victory season ever.

Purdue vs. Louisville, 6 p.m.: Purdue, making its 21st consecutive NCAA tournament apperance, won its 15th consecutive first-round game Sunday. The Boilermakers are 5-0 vs. Louisville, but the schools haven't faced each other since 1993.

Stanford vs. Michigan, 8:30 p.m.: Wayzata High School's Kate Thompson was one of three Wolverines players to play at least 38 minutes in the first round; she had 17 points and six rebounds vs. Villanova.

Notre Dame vs. Iowa, 8:30 p.m.: Ninth-seeded Iowa is the only one of the six Big Ten teams to make the round of 32 to get to play at home, but that might not be enough against the top-seeded Irish.
