Monday's Page 2 2day: MLS: Just another way to enjoy the sunshine

March 7, 2016 at 6:24AM

Sunday marked the beginning of this year's Major League Soccer season. Locally, it was the first of what appears to be a string of nice days in the forecast that will carry us closer to spring.

If you got outdoors, it wasn't hard to imagine this time next year, when Minnesota United could very well begin play in MLS — with a first match at its new home stadium in St. Paul a year later in 2018.

The Twins, since returning outdoors to Target Field in 2010, have made a cottage industry of a simple premise: Minnesotans want to be outside for as long as possible when the weather finally allows.

Another major league team in our market that plays outdoors during the nicest months of the year? Even if you don't love soccer, that sounds pretty good.
