Jake Guentzel scored the decisive goal in the shootout for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 2-1 victory over the Islanders on Monday in New York. Guentzel also assisted on Derick Brassard's tying goal in the third period.

Phil Kessel beat Robin Lehner in the first round of the shootout for Pittsburgh.

Tampa Bay 6, N.Y. Rangers 3: Steven Stamkos had three goals and became the first player from the 2008 draft to reach 700 points, and the NHL-leading Lightning won its seventh consecutive game.

Detroit 3, Los Angeles 1: Jimmy Howard made a season-high 42 saves and Dylan Larkin scored his 12th goal of the season, lifting the host Red Wings to victory.

San Jose 5, New Jersey 2: Timo Meier scored two goals and Joe Pavelski added his 20th for the host Sharks.

Goaltending change: The St. Louis Blues waived No. 2 goalie Chad Johnson and called up Jordan Binnington from San Antonio of the American Hockey League. The Blues' .893 team save percentage ranks 25th out of 31 teams.
