Pacioretty shot wins for Habs
TAMPA, FLA. – Max Pacioretty won it in the third round of a shootout and the Montreal Canadiens beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Monday night to end a six-game losing streak.
Brian Flynn also scored in the shootout for Montreal. Valtteri Filppula had a shootout goal for Tamp Bay.
The Canadiens got goals from Tomas Plekanec, Alex Galchenyuk and Dale Weise.
Nikita Kucherov, Jason Garrison and Ryan Callahan scored for the Lightning.
Mike Condon made 36 saves through overtime for Montreal. "When you're in a slump like this, it takes one of those games to break out of it," Condon said. "A good character win."
It was the first meeting between the teams since the Eastern Conference champion Lightning beat Montreal in the second round of last season's playoffs.
• CAPS PUSH STREAK: Braden Holtby made 31 saves and Alex Ovechkin scored to lead Washington over the Sabres 2-0 in Buffalo for their eighth consecutive victory. Ovechkin scored 19 seconds into the second period and Jay Beagle scored about 12 minutes later to help the Eastern Conference-leading Capitals improve to 27-6-2, the best start in franchise history.
• DOUBLE TROUBLE: James Neal scored twice, Mike Ribeiro had three assists and the Predators held off the visiting Rangers 5-3. Filip Forsberg, Craig Smith and Ryan Ellis also scored for the Predators.
•THAT HAT FITS: Tyler Toffoli scored three goals, Jonathan Quick got the 40th shutout of his NHL career and the Kings beat the host Canucks 5-0. Quick made 27 saves in his second shutout this season and was rarely tested. Anze Kopitar had four assists.
• HAT FOR MacKINNON, TOO: Nathan MacKinnon had a hat trick, including two of the Avalanche's four power-play goals, in a 6-3 victory over the Sharks. The victory ended Colorado's 13-game losing streak in San Jose.
