•WASHINGTON 8, LOS ANGELES 3: Gio Gonzalez scattered seven hits over eight scoreless innings and Ian Desmond hit two homers in a victorious road-trip opener for the Nationals.

• ARIZONA 13, PHILADELPHIA 3: Welington Castillo had four RBI and one of three home runs in the Diamondbacks' 17-hit atack.

•SAN DIEGO 2, CINCINNATI 1: The host Padres had only seven hits, but Justin Upton's two-run homer was the difference in the game.

Sale, Garcia bring power

• CHICAGO 8, LOS ANGELES 2: Chris Sale was back in All-Star form, pitching into the eighth inning, and Avisail Garcia homered twice and drove in four runs for the host White Sox. Sale bounced back after allowing 14 earned runs in 10⅓ innings while losing his previous two starts.

•BALTIMORE 3, SEATTLE 2: Chris Davis hit a go-ahead single and his 30th home run for the Orioles in Seattle.

NOTES

•The Dodgers put second baseman Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left hamstring and recalled infielder Jose Peraza from Class AAA Oklahoma City. Kendrick was injured while beating out an infield single in the fifth inning of the Dodgers' loss to the Pirates on Sunday.
