Minnesotans find new ways to celebrate

With the stay at home order in place, Minnesotans are being creative as they celebrate milestones.

Cretin-Derham Hall wrestlers honored their coach "All-Sports Award Difference-Maker" Walt Wietzke with a drive-by celebration outside his home, Saturday, April 11, 2020 in St. Paul, MN. Witzke was to be honored at an athletic banquet but the banquet was cancelled due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. Wietzke, a volunteer coach in the Raiders wrestling program for more than 35 years, spent the wrestling season at Mayo Clinic where he received stem-cell replacement for cancer.

Francisco Rosales, who has a weakened immune system, was given three birthday parties on his deck from his three children and their families, which include 14 grandchildren. "Had it not been for COVID-19, this yard would be full of people hitting a pinata, dancing, and grilling out," said Ramona Rosales.

Make-A-Wish planned a surprise birthday parade for wish kid Gabby. Her wish, hopefully will be granted later this summer. While she waits for her wish, her awesome volunteer wish granters wanted to give her hope and joy with a surprise birthday parade. Gabby was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma last year. Since her diagnosis, she has endured chemo treatments and countless doctor’s appointments. Her most recent scan in December showed that she is cancer free.
