Minnesota United said Thursday it has acquired Jose Leiton from Costa Rican top-division club C.S. Herediano on loan for the rest of the season. Leiton has played with center-back Francisco Calvo and midfielder Johan Venegas on the Costa Rican national team.

Heath said he spoke to Calvo about the 5-9, 155-pound 24-year-old, and the coach said the "young kid" has pace in wide areas and is more "direct" in his playing style.

"Little bit different than what we've got," Heath said of Leiton. "I feel as though our wingers at this moment are people who play with people or combine with people. This guy's a bit more of an individual, runs on the outside with sheer pace."

Heath said this loan, through July 10, 2018. is a good way for the Loons to make a decision on whether to keep the winger on with the team on a more permanent basis. Leiton will occupy a spot on United's reserve roster.
