Winona - Minnesota State, Mankato, ranked No. 3 in D2Football.com poll, routed Winona State 44-24 in an NSIC South Division game with a diversified attack.

The Mavericks (6-0, 2-0 South) ran a little (160 yards), passed a little (261) but, most importantly, held the ball for 20 minutes more than the Warriors.

MSU scored 14 points in both the first and second quarters to go ahead 28-10 by halftime. Connor Thomas' 4-yard touchdown run put the Mavericks ahead 7-3 six minutes into the game. Ricky Lloyd's 53-yard scoring pass to Dorian Buford with 52 seconds left in the opening quarter made it 14-3. Buford finished with six catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Andy Pfeiffer rushed 3 yards and Nick Pieruccini threw a 7-yard pass to Bryce Duncan for scores in the second quarter as the Mavericks' lead grew to 28-3.

Jack Nelson was 23-for-44 for 292 yards and three TDs for the Warriors (3-3, 0-2).
