MSU Mankato gives hockey coach Hastings eight-year contract

The Mavericks have the best record in Division I men's hockey over the past three seasons.

Minnesota State Mankato announced an eight-year contract for men's hockey coach Mike Hastings on Monday.

No terms were released. Shane Frederick of the Mankato Free Press reported the contract was worth $290,000 per season.

In three seasons in Mankato, Hastings is 79-36-7, the top record among Division I men's teams during that period. The Mavericks have three consecutive NCAA appearances and won the WCHA regular season and playoff titles in 2015. Hastings won the Penrose Award as the nation's top coach as well.
