Minnesota's state legislature approved an advisory committee that will recommend an economic development strategy for science and technology in the state.
The advisory committee will operate under the Minnesota Science and Technology Authority. The authority was approved under an act that passed through a larger Ominbus Economic Development bill. The authority will help the industry's businesses and non-profits to find funding, create workshops and help companies network with suppliers and vendors.
Betsy Lulfs will be the authority's initial executive director. Lulfs is currently the director of the Minnesota Office of Science and Technology. The budget for the Minnesota Office of Science and Technology will be transferred to become the authority's budget, Lulfs said.
The authority's advisory committee will be composed of 18 members respresenting investors, industry and academia. The advisory committee's first meeting must be held by Aug. 1.
