Minnesota Scene: U of M announces spring sport schedules

The Gophers women's gymnastics program will have an eight-meet regular season schedule this spring.

The Gophers women's gymnastics program will have an eight-meet regular season schedule this spring, consisting of four home meets, along with the annual intrasquad meet, and four away meets.

The Gophers, ranked No. 11 in the WCGA preseason poll, will hold their annual intrasquad meet Saturday at Maturi Pavilion and officially open their season Jan. 16 in a home meet against Iowa.

The Big Ten Championships will be March 20..

• The Gophers men's and women's indoor track and field and cross-country programs announced their schedules.

The track and field squad will open its eight weeks of competition Saturday with a meet at Iowa. The Big Ten Cross-Country Championships will be Jan. 30 in Shelbyville, Ind.

Etc.

• North Dakota's hockey series against Omaha scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D., has been postponed to Feb. 19-20 because of COVID-19 issues within the Mavericks program. It's the second time in as many weeks that a UND-UNO series was postponed because of the Mavericks' positive COVID-19 tests. The Dec. 31-Jan. 1 series in Omaha was moved to Jan. 29-30.

• A sports-talk radio show, with hosts Eric Nelson and Wally Langfellow, debuted on 1440-AM (KYCR) on Monday afternoon. The show, called "Ten Thousand Takes," will air from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at noon on Saturday.
