Minnesota Scene: Three share lead after Day 1 of State Open

Clayton Rask fired a 5-under-par 67 Friday and shared the lead with Don Berry and Donald Constable after the opening round of the Minnesota State Open at Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights.

Rask, a former Gophers golfer, is coming off a tie for fourth place at the PGA Tour Canada's Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Joe O'Brien carded a 4-under par 68 Friday, tying him with Andrew McCain.

Lincoln rallies late against Saints

The Lincoln Saltdogs went ahead with three runs in the eighth inning off Chris Peacock and defeated the Saints 6-5 Friday night at CHS Field.

Alonzo Harris and Vinny DiFazio had two RBI each for St. Paul.

• The Nashville Predators signed Wisconsin defenseman Jack Dougherty, a Cottage Grove native, to a three-year, entry-level contract, the NHL team announced. Nashville selected Dougherty in the second round (51st overall) of the 2014 draft.

• St. John's senior running back Sam Sura and Gustavus Adolphus senior receiver Matt Boyce were named to the D3football.com Preseason All-America first team. Augsburg senior wide receiver Joey Sonnenfeld was chosen to the second team.
