Gophers, Illini split

The Gophers softball team bounced back from a 4-3, eight-inning loss earlier in the day and defeated host Illinois 10-3, giving the team two of three in the series.

The Gophers hit five home runs — by five different players — in the second game, one short of the program record. Hope Brandner's two-run homer sparked the Gophers (27-10, 8-1) to victory in Game 2. In the first game, Brandner hit a go-ahead shot in the top of the eighth before the Illini rallied in the bottom half to win.
