Sammy Schmitz of Stone-ridge Golf Club defeated Ben Greve of Olympic Hills GC 3 and 2 on Wednesday in the final of the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Players' Championship at the Jewel Golf Club in Lake City.

Schmitz edged Andrew Israelson of the Vintage at Staples 1 up in the semifinals while Greve beat defending champion Jacques Wilson of Chaska Town Course 3 and 2.

Ledwein wins golf title

Taylor Ledwein of New Prague GC edged Olivia Herrick of Dellwood Country Club 2 and 1 in the final of the MGA Women's Amateur Match Play Championship at Faribault Golf Club.

Betsy Aldrich of Woodhill CC defeated Lynn Anderson of Keller GC on the 22nd hole of the Senior Amateur Match Play final on the same course.

Rau re-signs with Wild

The Wild boosted its depth, re-signing forward Kyle Rau to a two-year, two-way contract. The former Gopher will receive $700,000 if he plays in the NHL and $275,000 in the American Hockey League.

He spent most of last season in the minors, tallying 23 goals with the AHL Iowa Wild. The 25-year-old ranked tied for first on the team in power-play goals (eight) and second in goals. In three games with the Wild, the Eden Prairie native had one assist and Rau appeared in one playoff game

• Steve Murray, the Macalester assistant director of athletics in charge of NCAA compliance, was named the MIAC college's interim director of athletics.

• The St. Paul Saints lost 9-2 to the visiting Sioux City Explorers. Kes Carter and Max Murphy each had a triple and an RBI for the Saints, who signed ex-Sioux Falls slugger Burt Reynolds.
