Count Gophers men's basketball team officials as among the most interested weather-watchers Tuesday. The Gophers are scheduled to play a game Wednesday night in State College, Pa., where the much-hyped "super storm" is battering communities.
The storm was just starting to hit the East Coast on Monday. Gophers basketball spokesman Dan Reisig said the Gophers are "monitoring the weather but have no plans to change" their travel plans at this point.
The Gophers are scheduled to play Penn State at 6 p.m. Wednesday. According to the State College News, and more than 8 inches of snow was expected Monday — enough for the city to close schools. There is a winter weather advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

U gets football recruit
The Gophers continued rounding out this year's recruiting class Monday, when they got a commitment from Bryce Witham, a tight end from Grand Rapids (Mich.) West Catholic.
The 6-4, 240-pound Witham is a consensus three-star recruit who also had reported offers from Central Michigan, Southern Miss and Toledo.

Three skiers to compete
Jessie Diggins of Afton, Caitlin Gregg of Minneapolis and Kyle Bratrud of Eden Prairie are among 16 skiers named to the U.S. team that will compete at the Nordic skiing world championships in Falun, Sweden, Feb. 18-March 1.
