Minnesota Scene: Gophers' Mable wins all-around in New Hampshire

Lindsay Mable won the all-around and the vault for the Gophers in a women's gymnastics meet against host New Hampshire, Brown and Yale on Sunday in Durham, N.H.

The Gophers won with a score of 196.025. Runner-up New Hampshire scored 193.70. Mable won the all-around with a score of 39.45 and the vault with a 9.925 as the Gophers swept the top three places in both events. Teammate Kylie Schermann won the floor exercise, also with a 9.925.

• Junior Ellis Mannon captured the all-around title for the Gophers men's gymnastics team in a fourth-place finish Saturday night at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. The season-opening meet also included Big Ten rivals Michigan, Illinois, Ohio State and Iowa, along with Illinois-Chicago.

The Gophers posted a team score of 424.800. Michigan claimed the team title with a score of 437.500, followed by Ohio State and Illinois tying for second (436.050). Behind the Gophers were Iowa (417.700) and UIC (395.500).

Mannon posted a winning score of 87.05 in the all-around. He did not record a score below 14.0 the entire night, and his 15.95 on the pommel horse was the second-highest score recorded in the meet, topped only by the 16.25 posted by Michael Newburger of Ohio State, also in the pommel horse.
