Nebraska rallied to beat the Gophers 5-3 on Friday night at Siebert Field in Big Ten baseball.
Minnesota (22-11, 7-3 Big Ten) took a 3-1 lead in the third inning on Terrin Vavra's two-run homer. But the Cornhuskers (22-14-1, 6-3-1) tied the score with two runs in the fifth inning and took the lead with two more runs in the eighth. Leadoff hitter Jake Meyers was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for Nebraska.
U softball team rolls on
Freshman MaKenna Partain hit a two-run triple in the fifth inning to lead the No. 5 Gophers to a 5-0 victory over visiting Iowa in Big Ten softball on Friday night. Her triple drove in the game's first runs in Minnesota's 12th win in a row. Kendyl Lindaman, another freshman, hit her 15th homer in the sixth to tie the program single-season record.
Sara Groenewegen pitched the first six innings for the Gophers (41-3, 14-1) and struck out 12. Iowa fell to 15-25, 7-8.
U gymnasts in finals
The Gophers finished third out of six teams in the evening session of the NCAA men's gymnastics championships at Army to advance to Saturday's team finals.
Oklahoma placed first (430,600) followed by Illinois (421.300) and Minnesota (420.100).
