The Gophers will play a home-and-home football series against Fresno State in 2018 and 2019, the university announced Monday.

These will be the first meetings between the two schools, with the Sept. 8, 2018 game at TCF Bank Stadium and the Sept. 7, 2019 game at Bulldog Stadium in Fresno, Calif.

The Big Ten will switch to a nine-game conference schedule in 2016, so this announcement means the Gophers’ nonconference opponents for 2018 are set, with home games against Fresno State, New Mexico State and Miami (Ohio). The 2019 nonconference schedule has a spot remaining, with the Gophers’ other game in place at home against South Dakota State.

Fresno State, a member of the Mountain West Conference, is 26-14 in the past three seasons under coach Tim DeRuyter, appearing in a bowl game each season. The Bulldogs went 11-2 in 2013 but fell to 6-8 last year.
