The Gophers baseball program announced Wednesday it will play a 13-weekend, Big Ten-only regular season schedule, beginning March 5 at home against Indiana.

The 2021 schedule includes an even 22 home and 22 road contests, with the Gophers opening the season with a pair of weekends as the host team at U.S. Bank Stadium. To begin the year, Minnesota will play two games apiece against Indiana (March 5, March 7) and Rutgers (March 6, March 7) at U.S. Bank.

After finishing 8-10 in 2020, the Gophers return starters at seven positions. This will be John Anderson's 40th year as head coach. There will be no general public ticket sales for home games.

U senior tees off in Genesis Invitational

Gophers senior Angus Flanagan will compete in the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. On Monday, he won a three-hole playoff at the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase to earn an exemption into this week's field.

Flanagan will tee off Thursday morning at 10:19 with Willie Mack III and John Augenstein.

• The St. Mary's hockey programs will receive some major upgrades next season, including rink improvements and new men's apparel and equipment, thanks to an outright gift of $250,000 from a family that wants to remain anonymous, plus a commitment of $750,000 more for future needs. It's the largest gift ever to the hockey programs.

• The Gophers women's soccer team was picked 13th in a preseason Big Ten coaches' poll. Penn State was the choice to win the conference title.

• Winona State was picked to win the NSIC in the preseason men's golf coaches' poll.

• Northwestern's Megan Roberts, a 5-11 junior forward, was selected to the D3hoops.com team of the week.
