Minnesota Scene: Former Gopher Jones jailed for violating conditional release terms

Jeff Jones, the top Gophers football recruit in 2014 who left the program last year, was jailed Tuesday in connection with violating terms of his conditional release from jail after a May 13 arrest. Jones had been charged with felony drug possession after being arrested by Bloomington police.

• Matthew Garside of Vadnais Heights won a three-player playoff to win the Minnesota Junior PGA Championship at Jewel Golf Club in Lake City. He closed with a 3-over-par 74 for a 143 total. The girls' winner was Stephanie Herzog of Red Wing; she won by six shots with her 149. Both advance to the national championship Aug. 9-12 in Rumford, R.I.

• Three athletes with Minnesota ties, headlined by four-time World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn, were been named to the U.S. Alpine ski team.

Vonn, a Burnsville native, and St. Paul native David Chodounsky were selected to the A team roster. Michael Ankeny of Deephaven is on the B team roster. All are alumni of the Buck Hill racing program.

• Majestic Lady Jo set a track record for trotters at Running Aces Casino and Racetrack on Monday, covering the one-mile distance in a time of 1 minute, 56 seconds. The 5-year-old mare, trained by Rick Bertrand and driven by Steve Wiseman, won for the sixth time this season.
