Don Berry of Edinburgh USA won the Minnesota PGA Professional Championship with a score of 4 under par after the second round of play Tuesday was canceled because of unplayable conditions at North Oaks Golf Club. This is Berry's ninth Minnesota PGA Section Championship title and third in the past five years.
Brent Snyder of Troy Burne Golf Club and Dale Jones of Mendakota Country Club tied for second at 3-under.
• Mandy Pearson was named the Minnesota Duluth women's basketball coach. She coached St. Mary's from 2007-2014 and was the MIAC Coach of the Year in 2013 and '14. Her Cardinals teams were 42-13 the past two seasons.
• Four of the top six teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's preseason Division II top 25 poll are from the NSIC. Concordia (St. Paul), which has won seven national titles in the past eight years, is second behind defending national champion Tampa. Southwest Minnesota State is third, Minnesota Duluth fourth and Wayne State sixth.
• Anna Laorr, a former Gopher, defeated Katherine S. Smith in 22 holes and Sarah Burnham beat Cassie Deeg 2 up in the semifinals of the Minnesota Women's State Match Play Championship at Deer Run Golf Club in Victoria.
• The St. Paul Saints signed former Gophers infielder and Twins prospect Nate Hanson, 28.
