Bowling Green will join the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2013-14 season.

The WCHA announced the addition Tuesday, giving the league at least nine teams when it's revamped in two years. Eight of the current 12 members will leave then for other conferences, two to the Big Ten and six to the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Holdovers Alaska Anchorage, Bemidji State, Michigan Tech and Minnesota State Mankato will be joined by Alaska Fairbanks, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State and Northern Michigan.

U tweaks format for Midnight Madness The Gophers men's basketball team will be the host for the "Gopher All-Star Friday Night," the team's version of the annual Midnight Madness festivities, on Oct. 14 at Williams Arena, according to a Tuesday release from the program.

The event will feature a dunk contest, autograph session and team scrimmage. But this year, former Gophers will face members of the current team in the three-point shooting contest.

Etc. ā€¢ The Gophers men's golf team finished ninth in the two-day Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, N.C., with a final score of 889. Memphis won the 16-team tournament with a score of 861. Erik Van Rooyen was the Gophers' top individual, shooting a three-round score of 219, 6 over par.
