Apple Valley basketball star Tre Jones plans to announce his college choice at 5 p.m. Sunday before an invitation-only gathering of friends and family in the Twin Cities.

Jones' finalist schools include Duke, where his older brother Tyus, entering his third season as a guard for the Timberwolves, played one season and won an NCAA championship with the Blue Devils before turning pro.

His other finalists are the Gophers, along with Ohio State, UCLA, Oregon and Southern California.

Three of Tre Jones' Howard Pulley AAU teammates — Daniel Oturu, Jarvis Thomas and Gabe Kalscheur — already have committed to Minnesota.

Saints fall to Canaries

The St. Paul Saints slipped in the American Association standings, losing 7-3 Saturday to the Sioux Falls Canaries at CHS Field. St. Paul scored runs in each of the first three innings, including a home run by Anthony Gallas, but was hitless after Nate Hanson's two-out single in the fifth.

The Saints (42-36) are four games behind North Division leader Winnipeg, which beat Wichita 11-9.

The Saints have lost two of the three games in the series, which will conclude Sunday.

Gophers top Kansas St.

Molly Fiedler and Athena Kuehn scored second-half goals Friday for the Gophers in a 2-0 home exhibition soccer victory over Kansas State.
