Another big weekend against Wisconsin earned Seth Ambroz the Big Ten's second star of the week on Tuesday.

The senior forward scored two goals each night at the Kohl Center, in a 7-5 victory and 4-4 tie. Eleven of his 35 career goals and four of his six career multigoal games have come against the Badgers.

Michigan State junior goaltender Jake Hildebrand was the Big Ten first star of the week and Penn State sophomore defenseman David Thompson was the third star.


• Senior defenseman Zach Palmquist of No. 1 Minnesota State Mankato was named the WCHA's defensive player of the week. Palmquist, of South St. Paul, had three assists, four shots on goal and was a plus-1 as the Mavericks beat Ferris State twice, both times by 5-1 scores. … Bemidji State goalie Michael Bitzer was named the WCHA's rookie of the week. The freshman from Moorhead, Minn., stopped 41 shots and had a .911 save percentage as the Beavers beat then-No. 6 Bowling Green 5-2 and tied the Falcons 2-2.

• Omaha forward Avery Peterson was named the NCHC's rookie of the month for January. The freshman from Grand Rapids, Minn., had five goals and three assists in six games. … Four St. Cloud State players swept NCHC player of the week honors. Forward Jonny Brodzinski was the offensive player of the week, defenseman Ethan Prow the defensive player, Patrick Russell the rookie and Charlie Lindgren the goalie. The Huskies swept Colorado College 7-1, 6-1.


• Leandro Toledo of the Gophers was named the Big Ten's tennis player of the week. The senior, ranked No. 17, beat players from Dartmouth, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Oklahoma State, ranked No. 65, 77 and 98, respectively.

• Junior Kierra Smith of the Gophers was named the Big Ten co-swimmer of the week after four first-place finishes in a triple dual meet against Purdue and Northwestern. She won the 100- and 200-meter breaststrokes and 200 individual medley and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.
