The Gophers women's hockey team plays at Wisconsin this weekend for first place in the WCHA. No. 3 Minnesota (15-1, 11-1 conference) has an improbable 18-game unbeaten streak (16-0-2) against its archrival.

The No. 1 Badgers (16-0, 10-0) lost 3-1 to the Gophers in the 2015 Frozen Four semifinals in their most recent meeting. That gave the Gophers a 4-0-1 record against Wisconsin last season.

Three NSIC teams win

Top-seeded Concordia (St. Paul) swept Southwestern Oklahoma 25-12, 25-11, 25-15 on Thursday in the Central Region quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II tournament at Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul behind Emma Lange's 11 kills.

Southwest Minnesota State (26-5) swept Washburn 25-16, 25-18, 25-13 as Taylor Reiss and Abbey Thissen each had 12 kills for the Mustangs.

In other matches, Wayne State (25-7) beat Central Missouri 3-1 and Central Oklahoma (31-4) beat Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 to join three NSIC teams in Friday's semifinals.

Spielman honored

Senior running back/defensive back JD Spielman of Eden Prairie was named the Gatorade football player of the year in Minnesota.
