The WCHA suspended the Gophers’ Chloe Primerano and Ohio State’s Jordyn Petrie for one game each Monday for their roles in the brawl that followed Sunday’s women’s hockey game at Ridder Arena.

After the final horn sounded in the No. 3 Gophers’ 6-3 victory over the No. 2 Buckeyes, a fracas broke out as Ohio State’s Jordan Baxter cross-checked the Gophers’ Emma Kreisz as the junior center was down on the ice.

Primerano came to Kreisz’s defense, and multiple other skirmishes broke out before officials and coaches soon were able to restore order. The Gophers’ Gracie Graham and the Buckeyes’ Kassidy Carmichael were given disqualifications after the game, meaning they are also automatically suspended for one game. Seven others received game misconducts, including Primerano and Petrie.

On Monday, the WCHA said it reviewed the altercation and identified that Primerano and Petrie escalated the events. Primerano and Graham will miss Friday’s game at Minnesota Duluth. Petrie and Carmichael will sit out Friday at home against St. Cloud State.

“The WCHA does not support fighting and acts of aggression that result in player safety concerns and reflect poorly on our league,” the league said in its statement.
