Bobby April III, who spent the past three seasons as Stanford’s defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach, will join the Gophers as rush ends coach.

April moves into a job that C.J. Robbins held during the season. Robbins is expected to become Minnesota’s defensive line coach, replacing Dennis Dottin-Carter, who was let go after the regular season.

April’s hiring was confirmed by a source with knowledge of the situation.

Stanford brought in a new head coach in Tavita Pritchard, who was the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders of the NFL.

April’s father, Bobby April Jr., was a longtime NFL assistant. April III was Wisconsin’s outside linebackers coach from 2018 to 2022, and among the standout players he coached were Andrew Van Ginkel, Zack Baun and Nick Herbig.

A graduate of Louisiana-Lafayette, April coached in the NFL from 2011 to 2016 in various roles with the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He also has coached at the college level at Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, Portland State and Nicholls State.
