MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota freshman forward Gaston Diedhiou (Gas-TOHN JAY'-joo) has been admitted to the university and added to the roster.

The Gophers made the announcement Thursday that the 6-foot-9, 240-pound Diedhiou has joined the team and will be immediately eligible to play.

The native of Dakar, Senegal, was denied admission for the fall semester because of problems with the school's English proficiency exam. Diedhiou played at the Canaris Basketball Academy in Spain. He'll give the team some needed depth, following the decision by freshman forward Josh Martin to transfer from the program.

Minnesota also announced freshman guard Mike Lukashewich was added to the roster as a walk-on. Lukashewich played at North High School in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The Gophers host Seattle University on Friday night.
