Despite the Vikings' best intentions otherwise, the NFL broke a single-week record for passing yards with 7,842, as noted on Pro Football Talk. Tom Brady accounted for 517 of those, including an epic 99-yard TD pass to Wes Welker in the closing minutes against the Dolphins that likely influenced several fantasy football leagues (including one we witnessed last night).

Donovan McNabb and the Vikings, of course, accounted for 39 of those yards -- or as Dan Barreiro noted on twitter, 0.49 percent of the record-breaking total.

Yes, it was just one week. But the record-breaking nature of things underscores once again that the Vikings desperately need to fall in line quickly with the rest of the NFL as it stands in 2011. It is a passing league, and you cannot win if you cannot throw. Simple as that.
